Parks & Trails - Fire Ban


The Pinal County Parks & Trails Department will initiate a fire ban from Monday, May 1, 2023, until September 30, 2023, for all Pinal County-managed parks, trails, and trailheads. For a complete list of locations, click here.   

 The fire ban does not allow campfires, fire pits, and charcoal grills; this includes use in our developed campgrounds and picnic areas. However, using gas/propane grills in designated areas such as semi-developed and developed camping sites is still acceptable. Smoking is prohibited in all areas.

Those who violate the fire ban may be cited under Title 16, Chapter II., Section 16-20 (j) Fires - of the Pinal County, AZ, Code, which could include up to a Class 2 misdemeanor.

While September 30 is the fire ban lift date, an extension is possible. Open Space and Trails staff will monitor precipitation levels and vegetation conditions in the parks throughout the summer to determine if an extension is necessary. 

"Pinal County's parks, trails, and open spaces were abundant with wildflowers this Spring due to the heavy rains in the winter. As a result, we saw visitors from across the state and nearby states enjoying our beautiful Sonoran desert. With rising temperatures, the outcome is increased wildfire fuels.  Taking a proactive stance, Pinal County is implementing a Fire Ban for all managed parks, trails, and trailheads.  This action is necessary to reduce the opportunities of brush fires and their negative effects on park resources, visitors, and park neighbors."
